GoM to look into 2010 Games security

With the Mumbai terror attacks raising concern about security for the 2010 Commonwealth Games, the central government has constituted a Group of Ministers GoM to take stock of the situation and report back in two weeks.

With the Mumbai terror attacks raising concern about security for the 2010 Commonwealth Games, the central government has constituted a Group of Ministers GoM to take stock of the situation and report back in two weeks.

The decision was taken in the Cabinet meeting on Thursday. The ministers reportedly given charge are Urban Development Minister Jaipal Reddy, Tourism and Culture Minister Ambika Soni and Science and Technology Minister Kapil Sibal.

At the meeting, Sports Minister M S Gill reportedly expressed his concern over the availability of rooms for guest during the Games to be held from October 3-14.

As reported by Newsline earlier, the tourism ministry is considering roping in the city8217;s guest houses to meet the shortfall of about 19,000 rooms8212;the demand is for at least 30,000 rooms.

According to Sibal, the GoM will submit the report on the Games8217; security in two weeks and adequate measures will be taken to ensure internal security during the event.
