
A group of Ministers has been set up to look at food processing, indicating the government8217;s seriousness about the sector. At present, only three per cent of fruits and vegetables get processed in India.
8216;8216;The sector might get more impetus with the GoM,8217;8217; said Suresh Chandra, secretary, Ministry of Food Processing, at the one-day national consultative meet on fruit and vegetable processing at the NABARD auditorium in Mumbai earlier this week.
8216;8216;The agro processed food industry should ensure that those engaged in exports have the technical competence to ensure credibility,8217;8217; said Y S P Thorat, NABARD managing director, while inaugurating the meet.
The meeting was organised by NABARD in association with the Ministry of Food Processing Industries, APEDA and ExIm Bank to discuss an action plan for investment and flow of credit in the fruit and vegetable processing sector.
