MUNICH: World number one Martina Hingis was beaten 6-2 6-7 9-7 by Venus Williams in a thrilling Grand Slam Cup semi-final on Friday. The two and half hours clash in Munich8217;s Olympic Stadium was easily the best of the tournament. Venus will play Lindsay Davenport or sister Serena in Sunday8217;s final.
In the men8217;s quarter-finals, Briton Greg Rusedski defeated second seed Yevgeny Kafelnikov of Russia 7-5 7-6 and Ukrainian Andrei Medvedev eliminated Dutchman Richard Krajicek 7-6 6-4.
Sri Lanka, West Indies open triangular
SHARJAH: Sri Lanka will take on West Indies in the opening match of the 1,00,000 US dollars three-nation Coca Cola Cup cricket tournament here on October 13. Pakistan, the third team in the tournament, will battle it out with The West Indies on October 14. Pakistan play Sri Lanka the following day.
The three teams will meet each other again, before the October 22 final. All matches will be played under floodlights 1600 hrsIST.
Bangladesh tour important, says Lara

COLOGNE: Ferrari driver Michael Schumacher8217;s comeback may be delayed again because his knees have inflamed, a German newspaper reported today. The two-time Formula One world champion, whose comeback attempts have twice been thwarted, told Bild he now doubts he can return to the cockpit this year. Schumacher will be examined by his doctors again in Paris today for his right leg, which was broken in a high speed crash at theBritish Grand Prix in July.

The report said that sums amounting to millions were not being paid.
Film on Maradona to reveal inside truth
MADRID: Argentine soccer hero Diego Maradona has promised to tell the truth about his controversial life, unveiling plans for a new television drama based on his rags-to-riches story.

Argentine actor German Palacios will play the star in the three 90-minute episodes of the film, to be called Maradona. The film will include clips of Maradona scoring some of his memorable goals.
