LONDON: Britain8217;s WBO heavyweight champion Herbie Hide turned over tables and chairs after losing his temper in a press conference. Hide leapt to his feet to confront former sparring partner Danny Williams during a meeting with the press ahead of his title defence against Vitali Klitschko at the London arena.
Michael Bevan gets lost souvenirs
SYDNEY: Australian cricketer Michael Bevan had a sports bag containing souvenirs from his triumphant World Cup campaign returned just 24 hours after it was stolen from outside his Sydney home. A spokesman for the public relations company which manages Bevan said an unidentified man handed over the bag after Bevan posted a 5,000 about Rs 1.40 lakh reward for the safe return of the memorabilia.
The bag, which contained shirts, pads, caps and cricket bats signed by the entire Australian team, was taken from outside Bevan8217;s flat on Sydney8217;s Northern beaches while he was visiting a friend.
Jean Alesi escapes unhurt aftercrash
MAGNY-COURS FRANCE: Frenchman Jean Alesi walked away unhurt after crashing at 225 kph during practice for the French Grand Prix. Alesi lost control of his Sauber with 15 minutes of the morning session left. He locked up the wheels in an effort to slow the car but bounced over a gravel trap and smashed into a tyre-lined retaining barrier.
The impact caused the car to flip over, leaving Alesi stranded upside down in the Sauber cockpit.
Leonardo walks out of Brazilian squad
RIO DE JANEIRO: Brazil midfielder Leonardo walked out of The Copa America squad, hinting he had lost motivation to play for the national team.
His action brought another headache for coach Wanderley Luxemburgo, already at odds with fans who watch the team8217;s training sessions and worry about the fitness of star striker Ronaldo.
Leonardo became the third member after goalkeeper Taffarel and central defender Aldair from last year8217;s World Cup squad to distance himself from the set-up run by Luxemburgo, who hasbrought in a hardline disciplinary policy and controversially omitted volatile strikers Romario and Edmundo.
