NOTTINGHAM: All-rounder Shaun Pollock and off-spinner Pat Symcox played significant roles for South Africa in their 22-run victory over Nottinghamshire in a One-day game at Trent Bridge today.
Pollock smashed 87 from 59 balls in the touring team8217;s 284 for six and 38-year-old Symcox then claimed four for 43 as Notts slipped from 150 for two to 262 for eight.

LONDON: The British weather has once again cost the insurers of the London Grass Court championship 250,000 pounds 408,000 after 28 minutes of tennis were played on Centre Court today.
The tournament8217;s rain-check policy, which was also implemented on Monday, gives spectators a full refund if there is less than two hours of tennis played. The policy had only been called into use five times before in the 20-year history of the championships, and this is the first week which has been affected twice.

Sampras backs out, US retain side

BUDAPEST: Hungary8217;s Judit Polgar, the world8217;s top woman chess player, held a 3-1 lead over reigning world champion AnatolyKarpov halfway through a four-day competition yesterday.
In the first game of the day, Polgar, 21, played the black pieces, and started with a Ben-Oni defence. Karpov, of Russia, took a slight advantage but then lost on time after the 82nd move.
