MUMBAI, SEPT 6: Less than two months after he announced his decision to leave Mumbai following continual harassment by the Shiv Sena, film star Dilip Kumar on Monday campaigned for Mumbai North-East Lok Sabha Congress candidate Gurudas Kamat in three assembly constituencies. Later in the day, he headed towards South Mumbai to campaign for Murli Deora. At all the three venues - Cheetah Camp, Govandi and Chembur - the crowds turned up in thousands almost causing a stampede. The thespian played to the gallery asking the crowds to vote for a secular party. ``For 50 years I have served you with dedication, haven't I?'' he asked the crowd which cheered him and answered him in the affirmative. ``Mein mera haq mangta hoon. (Then give me my due today). Vote for the Congress if you love me,'' he said. The film star said that the ``atmosphere'' in the city had made him change his mind about staying back and campaigning for the Congress. ``It is sheer incompetence that makes governments collapse again andagain. The BJP came to power on a Hindutva plank. Today it has watered down its stand. What do we make out of this? The BJP should make its stand clear.''The film star won everyone's heart at Cheetah Camp - a Muslim dominated locality - by stopping his speech in between for almost five minutes when the azaan was on from nearby mosques.Earlier on Sunday, the thespian campaigned with Rajya Sabha MP Suresh Kalmadi in Pune. Here too, the actor played to the gallery by addressing the crowd in chaste Urdu. He not only took a dig at frequent elections but also ridiculed the BJP bid to make political capital out of the foreign issue. He also regaled the crowd with vivid memories of his active days in the film industry.
