NEW DELHI, DECEMBER 1: Gaurav Ghei put aside his worries about the swing and shared the lead with Korea’s Anthony Kang after the first round in the US $200,000 Mittweida Thailand Open with six-under 66 each. Ghei and Kang are one stroke ahead of Americans Robert Huxtable and Aaron Meeks and Canadian Jim Rutledge, as a huge Indian contingent descended onto the Thai capital for this event.

Jeev Milkha Singh, who just completed a good tour of Japan, where he made the cut in all four events and won nearly US $ 40,000 carded three-under 69 for the day and shared the 16th spot with six others, including the leader on the Asian PGA Order of Merit Kyi Hla Han of Myanmar.

Two other Indians Amandeep Johl and Amritinder Singh were two under for the day and shared the 23rd spot with 18 others, defending champion James Kingston of South Africa.

Uttam Singh Mundy and Vivek Bhandari with par rounds were in bunch sharing the 65th spot on a rather good day for the golfers. Arjun Atwal and Arjun Singh with one over 73 each were joint 85th, while Kanwar Sekhon with a 10-over 82 was 153rd in a field of 156.

Both Ghei and Kang have topped an event each this season. While Kang, who has been living in United States for 17 years, won the Casino Philippines Open, Ghei took the individual title in the inaugural Asian Nations Cup in October. But both players have been experiencing some problems with their swing.

Ghei and Kang both drilled six birdies each. Ghei said, “I changed my swing in the summer and I have been struggling to get used to it. Some days it is very good, other days it is very bad. I have got more consistent in my game, but it is taking time to get used to. I just have to be patient.”

Leading scores: 66: Anthony Kang (Kor) and Gaurav Ghei; 67: Aaron Meeks (US), Robert Huxtable (US), Jim Rutledge (Can)
