German rape case: Victim likely to give statement soon

The German girl, who was allegedly raped by son of Goa Minister Atanasio, will give her statement in the rape case soon.

The German girl, who was allegedly raped by the son of Goa Education Minister Atanasio Monseratte, will give her statement in the rape case soon, the lawyer representing her mother has said.

8220;The statement will come soon. She is being psychologically counselled,8221; Aires Rodrigues, lawyer of the German mother, who has alleged that her minor daughter was raped by Monserratte8217;s son, Rohit, said.

The police have deferred Rohit8217;s arrest awaiting formal statement from the girl or medical examination, which is not forthcoming despite several attempts.

Fearing that the case may hit a dead end, Superintendent of Police North Bosco George held meeting with Rodrigues, German mother and NGO which is on the job to counsel girl for statement.

8220;The girl is worried that she may have to face repercussion, if she gives statement against Rohit. She is being reassured about that,8221; the lawyer said.

Police have booked a case against Rohit for raping, outraging modesty, abatement of crime and sending lewd messages to the victim.

Rohit8217;s father, the minister, has also been charged of abatement of crime as the mobile connection used by the accused is in his name.

George, on Saturday, had said that they will arrest the accused only after they get the formal statement from the girl.
