NEW DELHI, MAY 22: Union Defence Minister George Fernandes has given the green signal for setting up an Armed Forces tribunal. All matters pertaining to the setting up of the tribunal were cleared by Fernandes on Friday at a meeting attended by the service chiefs and law ministry officials.
As reported earlier by The Indian Express, George mooted the idea of a tribunal to prevent officials of the three services going to courts with their grievances. The broad parameters of the tribunal were also agreed upon on Friday. The tribunal was a long pending demand of service personnel and was also strongly recommended by the Law Commission.
