VADODARA, May 27: The State government will make a formal announcement of implementation of the revised salary structure for the Gujarat Electricity Board GEB employees on Thursday, according to official sources.
The Board had reached a settlement at Dhuvaran on March 26 with members of five unions, whereby the employees were assured revised salary structure broadly on the lines of the recommendations of the Fifth Pay Commission.
Even as more than 45,000 employees will get benefit of more than Rs 300, the State government will bear an additional burden of nearly Rs 140 crore.
While the employees expected the revised scales to be made effective from April 1, the delay in announcement irked them and they twice threatened to go on strike. However, the calls were later withdrawn following talks with the government.
The decision to make a formal announcement is believed to have been taken in the GEB8217;s Board meeting held in Gandhinagar on Tuesday.
Sources said the government might also announce something for the engineers who were not included in the Dhuvaran settlement. The Board officers are holding talks with the engineers to listen to their grievances.
8220;The government is also likely to announce its action plan on the functioning of the Board,8221; sources said.
