
Gauri Monga took an early lead with the best card of two over par 74 in the 16th Punjab Ladies Open Amateur Golf Championship at the Chandigarh Golf Course on Tuesday.
The fifteen year old Gauri was two over as the turn dropping shots on two, three and seventh holes on account of three putting but then she made a long birdie putt on the ninth hole to be two over par at the turn and steadied her game. Playing a rock steady nine she made a superb chip-in-birdie on the 13th but she slipped on the last to make another bogey to finish with two over par 74.
She was followed by Neha Tripathi at 77 who now lay three strokes off the lead while Mehar Atwal, after making a birdie on the 18th hole, finished at the joint third spot with score of 78 with Shreya Ghei who dropped a shot each on the 17th and 18th hole.
Meanwhile, in the Gold Division, Rabiya Gill was leading the local challenge but on the 13th hole she had to make a triple bogey and went on to drop three more shots on the finishing holes. Thirteen-year-old local girl Ekram J Singh recorded a card of 84 in the Silver Division, playing three under her handicap. In the Bronze Division, Bela Phadke of Pune played seven under handicap to lead the field at 91. Dalbir Sahi and Neelu Chopra of Chandigarh finished second and third with 100 and 101. In the Super-Seniors age 65 and above, Dalbir Sahi leads with acreditable nett 74.
