
PATIALA, Feb 4: The Patiala Police claimed to have busted an inter-state gang of wine smugglers by arresting two of its members, Brij Lal and Surinder Singh, and recovered a total of 150 boxes of liquor from their possession.
According to the incharge, CIA, Patiala, Devinder Singh, on a specific information, a police party raided a place on Patiala-Sirhind road and arrested from there Brij Lal and Surinder Singh and also recovered 30 boxes of English liquor from them. Later, during the investigation both persons disclosed that they were carrying out smuggling of liquor from Indore Madhya Pradesh and the smuggled liquor would be distributed in the rural areas on less than state fixed rates.
Devinder Singh said that by adopting this method these persons collected huge amounts of money. He said that later the police also recovered 120 boxes of liquor from them.
The police has registered a case under excise Act against both persons, further investigations in the case are on.
