Meanwhile, Arjun Singh took a day off on November 5, his 78th birthday. There were no official engagements, but the Union HRD Minister wasn’t even collecting flowers and sweets at his home. He apparently spent his entire day indoors, leaving it to his grandson Aishwarya Singh, to receive the wishes and gifts on his behalf. Already known to handle most of Arjun’s official and political work, Aishwarya is slowly becoming the heir apparent. There were bouquets and greetings from friends and family, among them some roses from anti-quota petitioners. Arjun asked his aides to dump the Gandhigiri symbols in the bin, along with the “get-well-soon” card, according to our fly on the wall.
