Sharjah, October 24 : 8220;How could I ever say that against Tendulkar,8221; an indignant Saurav Ganguly said on Tuesday, refuting suggestions that he had taken a swipe at the batting maestro during a meeting with the press on Monday.
Media reports had quoted the Indian skipper has saying he did not want to land up with 25 or 26 One-Day hundreds only to see the team lose 50 per cent of the matches. Some media reports saw this as a dig at Tendulkar who has hit 26 One-Day centuries.
Tendulkar himself dismissed the suggestion saying 8220;I am sure if Saurav has to say something to me he would come directly to me8221;.Interestingly, in the 26 One-Dayers in which Tendulkar has scored centuries, India has won as many as 21 which works out at more than 80 per cent.Coach Anshuman Gaekwad too did not take lightly the suggestion that Ganguly might have hit out at Tendulkar.
8220;This is terrible. There was no mention of Tendulkar,8221; he said and added if such trend continued in reporting 8220;we might insist on a tape recorder8221;. Ganguly said 8220;it is very, very disappointing. I try my best to see the press gets fair information from me but if it is twisted like this, it is no good8221;.
Ganguly said even his quotes against Vinod Kambli were twisted. 8220;The report in a few stories I read in the net suggested I had said Kambli was no player of short-pitched bowling. It was put very crudely.
