VADODARA, Aug 22: The 43rd Foundation Day’ of the Oil and Natural Gas Commission (ONGC) was celebrated on August 14. It was on this day in 1956, K D Malaviya establised the ONGC. This year’s celebrations started with a simple function at the Regional Office, where N Lal, Executive Director, WRBC laid a wreath at the memorial column and paid tributes to those ONGC employees who had sacrificed their lives while serving the organisation.

On the occassion, the ONGC flag was unfurled by Lal, who then recalled the contributions of all those employees who rendered their dedicated services in its initial growth. He also briefed the gathering of the various achievements by ONGC since its inception.

In the evening, Lal felicitated the retired employees of ONGC at a function at the Officers’ Club. The celebrations included melodious rendition of patriotic songs and an Antakshari competition. Prizes for the Antakshari participants were also distributed on the occassion.

A slogan competition in Hindi, English and Gujarati on the theme "India in the 21st Country" was also organised. While the first prizes were bagged by S R Kadakia, Tara Joshi and D K Rathod in the three category respectively, the second prizes were won by Chandra Prakash Gaur, M S Vinay and S V Desai.

Celebrations: The 52nd year of Indian Independence was marked by celebrations at ONGC, Vadodara on August 15. N Lal unfurled the tricolour at the ONGC Pavillion amid a large gathering. On this occasion, Lal appreciated the concern and compassion of all the employees who contributed a day’s salary to "Army Welfare Fund" for the soldiers who laid down their lives while guarding the borders.

“After the implementation of Organisational Transformation Project in Western Region, our Asset Managers and Regional Managers have a direct responsibility towards cost reduction, productivity enhancement and organisational discipline” Lal said. He also emphasised the need to emerge victorious in the present competitive environment and urged the geoscientists to achieve the target of 140 MMT of inplace reserves for Western Region in the IXth plan.

Message of Chairman-cum-Managing Director B C Bora was read out to the employees, wherein he expressed hope that a new era of development in ONGC would be ushered in by the significant discovery of oil in the deep water areas of Krishna-Godavery Basin.

ONGC Security Personnel, students of Kendriya Vidyalaya and Baroda High School presented a march past on this occasion. CMD’s Award and Director’s (Personnel) Award was conferred on Subedar S Manikkram, AE (Mech) and Captain Ram Prakash, Chief Chemist for their meritorious work.

Welfare activities: To reiterate their concern for the lesser fortunate, the ONGC Mahila Samiti, Vadodara undertakes welfare activities on August 15 and January 26. On Independence Day this year, the ONGC Mahila Samiti, Vadodara visited the Jamnabai Hospital and distributed packets of fruits and biscuits to all the inmates.
