
Taking more than the recommended five servings of fruit and vegetables every day can considerably reduce the risk of stroke. A study in Lancet reveals that people who eat three to five times cut the risk by 11 per cent compared to those take less than three times. The risk is 26 per cent lower for the people who take more than five servings, Researchers at the University of London has found this in their study. The Health Department says five or more daily servings reduce the risk of heart disease, cancer and other problems. Stroke is the third leading cause of death and the most common cause of disability in developed countries.

Is it disparity of genes or smoking habit responsible for disparity in lung cancer among smokers of different ethnic backgrounds. A new study in the New England Journal of Medicine suggests that genetics may help explain the racial differences long seen in the disease.In a study of more than 180,000 people8212;one of the largest of its kind8212;blacks who smoke up to a pack per day are far more likely to develop kung cancers than whites who smoke similar amounts. Researchers have also found that Hispanic and Asian smokers are less likely than black smokers to develop the disease.
