MUMBAI, MAY 7: The 1983 World Cup winning Indian squad are a highly successful bunch. Much after their playing days, most members of the side have enriched the game in various capacities.
A look at what the heroes have done or doing:
KRISHNAMACHARI SRIKKANTH: Presently the India junior coach. An electrical engineer by profession, he looks after his family business, besides acting as a cricket consultant for Thomsun, TI Cycles, Parry8217;sconfectioneries. He also anchors Golden Moments of Indian cricket on Raj TV Tamil.
MOHINDER AMARNATH: Now a Mumbai resident, he runs a lucrative coaching scheme in Khar Gymkhana. Was the coach of the Bangladesh side before Gordon Greenidge took over. Is on the panel of the ICC match referees.
SANDEEP PATIL: Coached the Mumbai cricket team, then the Madhya Pradesh side before becoming the coach of the Indian junior and senior team for a brief period. Is editor of the marathi sports magazine Shatkar, but spends much time as head coach of the MIG Middle Income Group Cricket Academy in Bandra. Also involved with an event-management company with Prakash Padukone.
YASHPAL SHARMA: One of the rising number of players who have taken to umpiring after retirement. He is now on the all-India first-class panel of umpires. Does the occasional television commentary in Hindi.
KIRTI AZAD: Followed the footsteps of his father Bhagwat Jha Azad into politics. Elected Member of LegislativeAssembly on the Bharatiya Janata Party BJP ticket. Also runs an advertising agency.
KAPIL DEV: Heads the Board of Control for Cricket in India BCCI committee to oversee grounds all over the country. Has several business interests but still finds time for serious golf and, in fact, dreams of representing the country in the sport. Still a much sought-after model and peron for co-ordinating cricket-related events.
MADAN LAL: Was coach of the United Arab Emirates team and then the Indian junior and senior teams. Recently opened a cricket academy. Is now one of the members of the national selection committee. Associated with Mohan Meakins.
ROGER BINNY: After coaching the Karnataka Ranji side, he now serves as one of its selectors besides being in the Karnataka State Cricket Association. Works with the State Bank of India in Bangalore as Deputy General Manager, Bangalore. Runs a cricket academy. Like Kapil, a serious amateur golfer.
BALWINDER SINGH SANDHU: Went to theAustralian Cricket Academy and learnt a thing or two and was the coach of the Mumbai Ranji side. Works with the Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilizers.
SYED KIRMANI: Runs a cricket academy in Bangalore and is in the Karnataka senior selection committee chairman. Is also in the managing committee of the Karnataka State Cricket Association. Works with the State Bank of India as its Chief Manager Community Services and Public Relations in Bangalore.
RAVI SHASTRI: Like Sunil Gavaskar, has made a highly-successful transition into the media world. Does television commentary and also writes a syndicated column.
DILIP VENGSARKAR: Runs one of the most well-known cricket schools in the country 8212; the Elf-Vengsarkar Cricket Academy. Pens a syndicated column. Was also a selector of the Mumbai Cricket Association. Works with Tata Electric and also is involved with his family business of making caps for plastic bottles.
SUNIL VALSON: Away from cricketing acivities, he is now AssistantGeneral Manager Public Relations amp; Communications with Ispat Industries in Delhi.
