Five students from International School of Business in Hyderabad ISBbagged international placements with each being promised annual salaries of over Rs 1 crore. While the domestic offer figures were considerably less than last year, the surprising fact was that most of the students opted to take up home posts.

According to ISB officials, the hottest offers this year came from the consultancy and finance sectors, while the real estate was also high on the list. Companies from the manufacturing sector also participated in the placement in a big way. Officials said that all 418 students had been placed this year. Of these, 84 students are girls.

The highest offer this year came from an international company with an offer of Rs 1.18 crore per annum and the highest domestic offer was Rs 44 lakh per annum. Last year, the highest compensation package for an ISB passout was from an Indian company, with an offer of Rs 1.04 crore per annum.

The school did not release details of the companies that had done the hiring, but said that it included the real estate, media, NGO, healthcare, consumer goods and manufacturing sectors. ISB Deputy Dean Ajit Rangnekar said, 8220;The strong message we are getting is that infrastructure is really hot in steel and cement at the moment. Oil and energy are also big and so is healthcare.8221; Despite the large difference between international and domestic offers, almost 90 per cent of the students have chosen jobs in India.

Five students have chosen jobs in the development sector, while 15 have decided to become entrepreneurs and set up their own businesses. School officials consider this a welcome change and say this trend is slated to increase in the following years. Salaries given to ISB graduates are at par with those who have undertaken the one year management courses at IIM Ahmedabad and have prior work experience.

Most of the students in ISB have work experience and they come from diverse backgrounds such as medicine, social work and engineering. Ali Potia , a graduate of the 2007 batch, said, 8220;We are really bullish on the Indian economy right now as a group. There have been times when the role offered in India was infinitely more interesting than those offered abroad and the career graph is also much more accelerated in Indian companies.
