Punjab today said it would conduct afresh the entire selection process for the 3,000-odd appointments made during Ravinder Pal Singh Sidhu’s tenure as PPSC chairman.
The fresh process would be conducted through an independent agency. All those who appeared for a written test and/or interview for the posts concerned would be eligible for the retest. Even the 46 PCS officers who were suspended recently would be eligible.
The government decision effectively scraps all appointments of PCS (executive, judicial and allied), PCMS, veterinary officers, BDPOs, registrars, lecturers, and SDOs made during five years of Sidhu’s tenure.
Chief Secretary Y.S. Ratra said: ‘‘Contrary to the impression formed after today’s decision, no one has been chucked out. Rather, decisions will be taken (in keeping with this order) by the department heads concerned.
‘‘It is for the respective department heads and administrative secretaries to now peruse their service rules, probation rules and take decisions regarding the officers already selected.’’
On age relaxation for selected officers and thousands of others who were unsuccessful, Ratra said the departments concerned would have to decide. The government has an open mind on age relaxation, sources said.
‘‘We don’t want to be vindictive. I can assure you even those who were selected during Sidhu’s tenure, if they are selected again, would be restored to their posts.’’
