
PUNE, Aug 20: Four occupants of the Baramati Hostel were stabbed following an altercation between two groups, this afternoon. The police have arrested two of the alleged attackers and are on lookout for the third.
According to police officials who rushed to the spot, the stabbing was the fallout of an altercation between Vijay Kadam and Shahid Singh, both students of the Symbiosis Society8217;s Law College SSLC.
Kadam has been admitted to the intensive care unit of the Ratna Memorial Hospital along with Hrishikesh Datta Majumdar with multiple stab injuries. Their condition was stated to be serious but stable.
According to eyewitness accounts, Kadam and Majumdar were at the hostel along with their friends when they were approached by Shahid and his accomplices, Maninder Gurcharan Singh and Dhanwant Singh. Following a heated argument Shahid whipped out a kripan and allegedly attacked Kadam. Hrishikesh and the others were injured when they tried to intervene.
Hearing the commotion, other occupants from the hostel rushed out and managed to nab Maninder and Dhanwant. Both were turned over to the police and have been placed under arrest. Maninder, who was allegedly beaten up by other occupants of the hostel has been admitted to Sassoon Hospital.
The police are on the look out for prime accused Shahid but were yet to trace him till late evening. Meanwhile, tension prevailed at the hostel where the four were attacked and visitors were barred from entering its premises by agitated students. Sub-inspector K N Kutate of the Chatuhshringi police station is investigating.
