Charging the UPA government of neglecting security issues, the BJP today demanded an integrated action plan to be drawn by the police, the military and development administration experts to combat terrorism.
Ahead of tomorrow8217;s CMs conference, party spokesman Prakash Javadekar said the BJP did not share the UPA view that every state should devise its own strategy to cope with far-Left violence. He said Naxalites active in all the states were bound by a common string. What was worse, he said, was a new sophistication in their operations which is evident from their use of machine guns, remote EDs and grenades. They were better organised too, he added. Therefore, nothing short of a comprehensive plan would do.
Javadekar said cross-border terrorism and insurgency in the North-east were on the rise. The incidence of cross-border infiltration had risen from 170 to 476 during the first half of this year, compared to the same period last year.
Javadekar claimed the UPA had allowed a drift in its policy and let Pakistan convert the terrorism-specific dialogue into a Kashmir-centric process. He said, 8220;We learn India and Pakistan are holding talks on a no-paper on Kashmir8230;We demand the government take the country into confidence about what is going on.8221;
He said the UPA regime had not been able to counter Pakistan, which had introduced an altogether new vocabulary 8212; freelance terrorism, demiltarisation, joint management and self-rule 8212; in the context of Kashmir.
