VADODARA, June 4: The members of the Baroda City Consumers’ Council have mooted the formation of a `Consumer Welfare Fund’ by petrol pumps of the state with the “illegal money” collected by them immediately after announcement of petrol price hike on Tuesday.
Though the cost of petrol per litre worked out to be Rs 27.38, petrol pumps charged Rs 30.64 per litre and even more, they alleged.
The council office bearers in a letter to the secretary, Food and Civil Supply department alleged that some petrol-pump owners had over charged customers.
charged Rs 3 to Rs 5 extra on each litre of petrol sold on Tuesday. This was illegal as there had been hike of Re 1 only, they alleged. A case should be registered against this act of the petrol-pump owners, they added.
