Hearting a petition filed by constables of the Maharashtra Excise Department, the Bombay High Court has directed the state to inquire into the allegations of a fraud committed by 38 clerks to increase their height, in some cases by eight cms, for promotion to the rank of sub-inspectors.
However, the petitioners alleged that despite the court verdict, the clerks have been given prime executive postings though they were not found fit and eligible for such job.
Following a test, it was found that they did not have the requisite height prescribed in the recruitment rules.
The court observed that the government was free to take action against the erring clerks and medical officers.
