Keeping fit is an obsession that is quickly catching on and the first item that you need to join a gymn, is a pair of comfortable shoes. There are shoes for running and shoes for cross training. Shoes for basketball, tennis, cricket, soccer and golf. However, such a large variety can become a little overwhelming, if you aren8217;t sure what will really suit your needs.

Shoes are an important part of our attire. Most people are born with good feet, but due to negligence about shoe comfort, a large percentage develop foot troubles in later life. Furthermore, wearing synthetic socks and stockings causes lack of proper ventilation, which gives rise to fungal infections on the feet.

The Nike air technology, allows air to pass through the shoes as a person is walking, thus keeping the feet aired at all times. Reebok have developed an ultimate air technology system, that has been used for the first time in the world, according to Vikas Jain, managing partner of Classic Centre. This new technology is called DMX. 8220;It is the ultimate in air transfer technology and is used in athletic footwear. It reduces the impact by 50 per cent as half the body weight is absorbed by an air cushion,8221; says Vikas.

For those who want light shoes for athletics, there is the 3D ultralight technology, that is made of rubber and EVA foam blended together. Vikas explains that this mixture is used to produce the lightest shoes in the world. A small mixture, it expands to the shoes size on cooling. Then there is the hexalight technology. A honeycomb shaped material is placed under the foot and it absorbs shock and no friction heat comes in. All this technology can be quite confusing.

Therefore, it is easier to buy shoes if you know what you want them for. Devichand Sharma, manager of the Nike showroom, says that each shoe is designed differently. Basketball shoes have a high ankle, along with cushioned support, as these tall players need the ankle support. Tennis shoes offer a side way support that is needed for a good grip on court.Running shoes have a soft sole as apposed to cross training shoes that have a hard sole. Devichand says: 8220;Most of out shoes are within Rs 1,000 to Rs 5,000. The shoes that have air technology are priced at Rs 1,500 and above. However, joggers are for around Rs 1,000.8221;

The advent of international firms like Nike and Reebok have made local companies like Liberty and Phoenix increase their selection of trainers as opposed to formal shoes, which seemed to be the trend in India. Even though Vikas Jain feels that they offer the cheapest price ranges from the other shoes, a pair of Reeboks can cost you nearly Rs 5,000. However, a pair of Power shoes from Bata should not cost you more than Rs 700. Lotto offers the middle range with a pair costing about Rs 2,000.

Shoes for cricket, soccer and golf are also available. Therefore, whatever your hobby this summer, you should now be able to go out there and buy a pair of shoes that fulfil your needs. Not only will you have happy feet but comfortable ones as well.
