
Union finance minister P. Chidambaram has been named ‘‘finance minister of the year 2005 for Asia’’ by Banker magazine for pushing reforms and reining in the fiscal deficit. The magazine (part of The Financial Times group) gave him this award for his pursuit for reforms despite an unwieldy alliance that is supported by Left parties from outside.
