St John8217;s: England allrounder Andrew Flintoff is carrying an ankle injury ahead of his team8217;s World Cup Super 8s match against Sri Lanka. Flintoff twisted his ankle in Friday8217;s 48-run win over Ireland, in which he took four wickets and scored 43 runs for his best performance of the tournament. England coach Duncan Fletcher said Sunday the injury was likely to prove minor and that Flintoff should recover for Wednesday8217;s match.
8220;He twisted it when he was bowling. He just went over on it, which anyone can do in a game,8221; Fletcher said. 8220;We don8217;t see it as a serious problem.8221; The injury was not related to the ankle problem that restricted Flintoff during the Ashes defeat to Australia in the southern summer.
Watson has time on his side
St John8217;s: Australia have an eight-day break between Saturday8217;s 10-wicket victory over Bangladesh and their next game against England. That may give allrounder Shane Watson time to recover from a calf strain.
Watson was running up to bowl the fourth ball of his second over in Saturday8217;s rain-shortened Super 8 match against Bangladesh when he showed obvious discomfort and left the field. 8220;Losing an allrounder out of your side does throw the balance out,8221; Ponting said. 8220;If he8217;s going to miss the next game, I have to really think about what our best lineup is. He8217;s been playing as our fifth fast bowler who8217;s a bit handy with the bat.8221;
