After sitting out for five months last year due to a left wrist injury, Flavia Pennetta made a quiet comeback to the WTA circuit this January. She had a disastrous opener, going out in the first round at tournaments at Gold Coast and Hobart, and the Australian Open.
A far cry from the top-30 player she once was.
8220;I underwent an operation on my left wrist and was out for almost five months. My confidence and fitness were very low. But now I am feeling better,8221; Pennetta said.
Aiming to gain back lost ground, Pennetta wants to end the year firmly back in the top 30 in the world.
A veteran of the tour with 10 years behind her back, the Switzerland resident, who trains in Spain said: 8216;I have learnt a lot over the years. I started very young but the last three years under Gabriel Urpi have been good.8221;
Pennetta had also trained with Sania Mirza for a brief period early this year, when the Indian star was also under the tutelage of Urpi.
8220;Yes Sania came and trained with us this year. We enjoyed practicing together and I hope she comes down to Spain sometime later this year,8221; Pennetta said.
