
PUNE, JUNE 16: Additional sessions judge B S Bandgar on Tuesday convicted five youths for murder and sentenced them to life imprisonment.
The court held Umesh Babanrao Khutwad 21, Jeetandra Bappa Baravkar 22, Subhash Maruti Awsare 277, Sunil Maruti Awsare 20, and Rakesh Tukaram Pawar 20, guilty of murdering 24-year-old youth Baban Shivaji Pawar, all residents of Upper Indiranagar Bibwewadi.
The five youths had sometime in August 8217;95 asked the Baban to fetch beer for them. When Baban refused, the youths threatened him with dire consequences. Two months later, on October 31, the youths accosted Baban at 8.30 pm near Omkar clinic in Bibwewadi when he was returning home along with his wife and his one-year old child. They thrashed him and later stabbed him with a knife. Baban8217;s wife ran up to the house and called her in-laws. By the time they reached the place, Baban was in a pool of blood. He was immediately shifted to the Sassoon hospital. In his statement, Baban gave the police the names of the accused.
A total of 16 witnesses were examined. The court held all the youths guilty of murder and sentenced them to life imprisonment. Advocate S M Kalbhor appeared for the State.
