THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, FEBRUARY 3: Five records were bettered and Haryana, Kerala and Maharashtra fought for the overall positions in athletics on the third day of the 45th National School Games.

After 33 events, Haryana lead with 44 points followed by Maharashtra (41) and Kerala (40).

Three new records were set by Dinesh Kumar, Rajesh Kumar (14.73m in under-19 triple jump) and Ramesh Kumar of Jat Senior High Secondary High School, Hissar (Haryana). Harpal Singh (Punjab, 55.70m in hammer throw) and Jagbir Singh (Gujarat, 4.30m in pole vault) also improved existing marks. Haryana won five more golds and topped the medals tally with seven golds, two silvers and five bronze medals.
