NEW DELHI, June 12: Five people died in four separate accidents in the Capital in the past 24 hours. A 18-year-old youth was crushed to death under the wheels of a private bus while he was getting down from the vehicle at the Seemapuri bus stop around 9.30 pm last night. According to the police, Bobby had come to the bus stop to see off his relatives. He had got on to the bus plying from Rajender Nagar to Noida. When the bus started moving, he tried to get down but was pulled under the wheels of the bus. He reportedly died on the spot.
The driver of the bus bearing number DLIP 1137 fled the spot. A case of negligent driving has been registered at the Seemapuri police station.
In a second incident, a 45-year-old woman who was sleeping on the pavement was crushed to death by a speeding vehicle in the Greater Kailash area of south Delhi. Her two daughters who were sleeping beside her escaped unhurt.According to the police, she reportedly lived in the jhuggis nearby and was sleeping on the pavement. The car which fled the spot was apparently a white Contessa.
In yet another accident, an unidentified man was crushed by an unknown vehicle in the I.P Estate area last night. Police have registered a case and are trying to identify the body. In the fourth case, two children about 10 years old, on cycles were crushed under the wheels of a tanker around 9.15 a.m in Okhla phase I area.
The children were rushed to AIIMS where they were declared dead. The police are questioning people around Annadmayi marg about the identity of the deceased. The Okhla police has recoverd some clothes from a bag carried by one of the children. The driver of the tanker bearing number HR 38/P 6261 who had fled the spot has been arrested by the police.
