Five New Year revellers were killed and three others injured when their jeep collided head on with a truck in Chittorgarh district of Rajasthan on Tuesday. Police said eight persons were returning from a party near a resort in Chittorgarh when the mishap took place. A case has been registered against the truck driver.

300 youths in Kanpur jail

KANPUR: Around 300 youths were detained for creating ruckus on the eve of New Year, police said here on Tuesday. The youths were arrested for their wild behaviour at around midnight, Senior Superintendent of Police Anand Swaroop said, adding they spent their first morning of the New Year in police custody. They were set free after a warning was issued to their wardens, he added.

Foreign tourists molested

KOCHI: New Year festivities turned into a nightmarish experience for many foreigners at the Fort Kochi beach here as some revellers allegedly harassed and molested some of the female tourists. Many of the tourists made a hurried exit from the beach on Monday night after virtually being driven to tears by the revellers. Some youngsters allegedly misbehaved with the teenaged daughter of a Swedish tourist, Christon, who had come all the way to Kochi to celebrate New Year with his family, police said.
