NEW DELHI, April 23: The North district police claim to have arrested the gang of thieves that committed a robbery in broad daylight near the Sadar Bazar police station.
At around 2.30 p.m. on April 14, four persons armed with knives and pistols reportedly entered Mansoor Jamal’s house in Sadar Bazar. They threatened his wife Shehnaz Jamal and locked her up in the bathroom with their domestic help, Alaudin. The group then decamped with cash, jewellery, cameras, wrist watches and alarm clocks. Shehnaz and Alaudin were rescued by an acquaintance who came to the house at around 3.20 p.m.
During investigation, suspicion fell on Alaudin because of the contradictory statements he made to the police. He finally confessed that he had hatched a plot with his uncle Mahmood and other associates to rob Mansoor Jamal’s house.
As per the plan, they allegedly assembled at Mahmood’s shop in Ajmeri Gate on April 14 at around 12 noon. They went to Mansoor Jamal’s house where Alaudin opened the door when they rang the doorbell. Alaudin was also locked up in the bathroom to apparently mislead the police.
The five accused — Mahmood, Shiv Kumar, Alaudin, Akhtar Hussain and Sikki — have been arrested. On the basis of information given by them, three cameras, gold necklaces, gold bracelets, earrings and silver coins have been recovered. A police party has been sent to arrest two others, Suresh and Vidya, who have reportedly gone to Gopal Ganj in Bihar.
