
NEW DELHI, FEBRUARY 28: Three-and-half-year-old Asha was playing in the lane outside her home near Yadav Chowk when a speeding tractor carrying bricks hit her around 11.30 a.m. today. She died on the spot.
The driver did not stop. Asha8217;s parents rushed out when they heard a bang to find Asha lying crushed on the road. A case of hit-and-run has been registered at the Timarpur police station.
Four more people died in hit-and-run cases in the past 24 hours. A delivery van hit a tempo in the Timarpur police station area. The 25-year-old driver of the tempo died on the spot. The delivery van sped off after the accident.
In an incident at Shahdara last night, an unidentified man, believed to be in his 40s, was run over by an unknown vehicle. An unidentified woman, aged around 25, died in Jaslok Hospital in Sarojini Nagar hours after an autorickshaw driver took her there. The autorickshaw driver had found her injured on the roadside near the hospital last night, bleeding profusely after she was knocked down by a speeding vehicle. Last year, over 1,800 accident cases were registered in the capital. Half of them remain unsolved as they were hit-and-run cases.
