Of the five greatest moments in Indian women8217;s hockey 8212; 1982 onwards 8212; the last four have come through contributions from players who were selected in the period between 1989-91, trained together and brought home laurels in three major tournaments; 1998 Asian Games, 1999 Asia Cup and 2002 Commonwealth Games. Present captain Suraj Lata Devi and goalkeeper Helen Mary are the two players remaining from that era8230;

2002 CG: India won the title at Manchester after a roller-coaster entry into the finals. They managed to beat hosts England and were treated as national heroes when they returned home

1982 Asian Games: The Indian women8217;s first bit of time under the sun came in 1982 when they won gold for the first time in the tournament. Eliza Nelson was the captain of the Indian team and the star of the team was Rajbeer Kaur, sister of Jugraj Singh. India beat South Korea in the finals

1998 Asian Games: The Indian team won silver, losing to South Korea in the finals. But some of the players in the team are still regarded by experts as among the best players produced in the country. One of the key players in the team Sita Gussain was even picked in a World XI

1999 Asia Cup: Won silver. India reached the finals of the tournament for the first time. They lost to South Korea by the golden goal

2004 Asia Cup: A newly-formed team full of rookies who do not care about reputations. Have just thrashed South Korea 5-0 in the semis
