
Five policemen of the elite Special Operations Group of Meerut police have been named in an FIR today after a witness stating that police deliberately killed Satbir Singh Tomar, an advocate and the father of Neeraj Malik charged with murdering a PhD scholar yesterday on the premises of Choudhary Charan Singh University.
Meerut SSP Navniet Sekera ordered the FIR against the policemen today evening calling the incident 8216;8216;highly unfortunate.8217;8217;
Sources say the accused policemen took the step after one of their colleagues, constable Praveen Giri, was killed in firing done by Tomar and his son yesterday after the police conducted a raid there. 8216;8216;Evidence has come up that the policemen had apprehended Tomar alive and brought him to sit in a police van. But later they got agitated over their colleague8217;s death and took Tomar back to the house gate, shooting him point-blank in the back of his head,8217;8217; a police official in Meerut said.
Meanwhile, the two youths involved in yesterday8217;s murder surrendered before the Noida police after surfacing on a TV news channel claiming innocence. Neeraj Malik and Nitin Kasana were taken into custody by a police team led by Noida SSP SS Rathore from the India TV studio in Film City. Before surrendering, the youths claimed before the channel that the Meerut police had plotted to eliminate them through an encounter.
