Zurich, March 7: International football8217;s governing body FIFA has made a complete about face and denied that it was striking nandrolone from its list of banned substances.

Herren said that the decision was based on research which showed nandrolone could be produced by the body during strenuous exercise.

A statement issued from FIFA headquarters on Monday denied, however, that this was the case and said that the executive committee will examine the question of nandrolone at its next meeting on March 23-24.

8220;Contrary to what was stated several times over the weekend, FIFA has not decided to strike nandrolone from their list of banned substances. The international football federation vehemently denies that this is the case,8221; a FIFA statement said.

8220;FIFA8217;s executive committee will examine the subject of nandrolone during their next session on March 23-24 in Zurich. No other statement will be made before that date,8221; the statement added.

FIFA did not explain Herren8217;s statements on Friday, which were widely reported in the international media, or say what had caused their sudden backflip.
