
Two youths apprehended by the Border Security Force BSF recently have revealed that Fakirapur in Dhaka and Jhinaghati in Sherpur district are the two places in Bangladesh where fake Indian currency notes are being printed. The two, Risang and Kingkong Sangma, said after printing, the fake notes are smuggled into the Northeastern states.
BSF Commandant G V S Sikarwar told The Indian Express on Friday that the two boys, arrested by BSF guards while they were trying to cross over to Bangladesh from Garo Hills, revealed that the paper for printing the notes came from Pakistan.
Sikarwar said based on what was revealed by the two, the BSF would try and get 8220;concrete proof8221; before taking up the issue of printing presses that were printing fake notes with the Bangladesh Rifles BDR.
From January to May this year, Assam Police had seized fake notes worth Rs 2.50 lakh and the Meghalaya Police had seized Rs 1.30 lakh in the same period. In Garo Hills, BSF had seized Rs 50,900 till June.
