MUMBAI, June 24: The Economic Offences Wing EOW of the Crime Branch of Mumbai police will be restructured soon, stated Minister of State for Home Gajanan Kirtikar on Wednesday.

The Minister asked senior government and police officials to submit a proposal to this effect at a meeting convened to review the EOW8217;s performance. Kirtikar agreed to the police officers8217; demand to appoint expert legal advisers and chartered accountants to help in solving complicated economic offences.

The EOW had filed chargesheets in 127 out of 462 cases registered since its inception. The EOW has five departments to handle offences in banks and educational institutions, land dealings and construction business, general cheating, passport and job rackets and shares. The meeting was attended by additional chief secretary Home K C Shrivastava, additional commissioner of Police crime Y C Pawar and other officers.
