Marseille area police prefect, Jean-Paul Proust, announced that retail alcohol sales would be banned from Friday afternoon until midnight Sunday ahead of The Netherlands-South Korea match in town on Saturday night. Bars must also close at 11 p.m.
French courts convicted four German and three English soccer fans for violence that marred the first week of the competition. The y get sentences ranging from two to four months.
Two other German fans were convicted for attacking a German television crew before their country8217;s match against the United States. They were to be deported.
Interior minister Jean-Pierre Chevenement signed an order on Tuesday to expel five English fans and a Tunisian. The six to be expelled were to first serve jail terms of two to three months, officials said.
More than 100 people remained jailed in Marseille after three nights of violence.
