
The Paraplegic Rehabilitation Centre at Mohali will soon have a brand new physiotherapy block housing under one roof all state-of-the-art physiotherapy equipment. The 330 square metre-block christened 8216;Express Block8217; will be constructed at a cost of about Rs 23 lakh.
Laying the foundation stone of the block at PRC today, Lt Gen Daljeet Singh, GOC-in-C, Western Command, underlined the importance of the block, saying, 8220;It will provide better care for occupants, who will be given treatment under controlled and supervised environment under one roof.8221;
The block is a joint venture between the Army and The Indian Express Group. Gen Daljeet Singh, appreciating The Indian Express8217; initiative, said: 8220;This is in continuation of the Express8217; contribution in the building of the Chandigarh War Memorial,8221; and expressed hope that such cooperation would be extended to other projects as well. He also reiterated the commitment of the army in providing most modern facilities to the affected ex-servicemen to ensure their speedy rehabilitation.
Also present on the occasion were AWWA Western Command President Mohini Daljeet Singh, Director PRC Col Retd Jaswant Singh Spehia and senior officers of the Western Command.
Speaking on the occasion, The Indian Express Chandigarh Resident Editor Vipin Pubby said the newspaper holds the defence forces in high esteem and the offer to help construct the block was part of its commitment towards the welfare of serving and the retired defence personnel.
He said Express Group CEO and Editor-in-Chief Shekhar Gupta had taken initiative to offer the much-needed block at the PRC, and that the Express Group was in the process of working out details for more such projects. He said it was also setting up a computer centre at PRC, Kirkee, Pune. Later, Singh interacted with the occupants of the PRC and assured them that additional welfare steps for them would be taken.
