
Excise duty collections recorded a dip of 3.8 per cent in September 2008-09 vis-agrave;-vis the same period last fiscal. The government could shore up Rs 9,800 crore in September 2008 compared to revenue of Rs 10,186 crore collected through excise duty in September 2007. While the government targets a 7.75 per cent growth in excise duty for the current fiscal, excise duty collections have grown by only 2.3 per cent in the period between April to September 2008 compared to the same period the year before.
