MUMBAI, SEPT 1: The Rs 400-crore Excel Industries Ltd EIL will set up a 200 tonnes per day TPD garbage treatment plant in Mysore, the first of its kind in that city. The company was awarded the contract by the Mysore Municipal Corporation MMC after 18 months of negotiation, a company release said here today.

MMC authorities would be funding the project while Excel would provide the technical knowhow as well as construct, operate and maintain the Rs four crore plant for ten years, EIL chief manager Mohan Jawdekar said.

The construction of the plant is expected to begin this month and it would be commissioned in 15 months, he added. The plant would produce about 12,000 tonnes of soil enricher from the garbage.

Excel had earlier received a contract to set up a Rs 8 crore 600 TPD garbage treatment plant at Deonar in Mumbai. The 25 acres of land at Deonar dumping yard was handed over to Excel by the Mumbai Municipal Corporation and the construction of the plant is expected to begin as soon as the rainssubside and would be completed in 18 months. Excel would produce about 45,000 tonnes of soil enricher from the garbage in a year. It has also completed a 500-tonne plant in Ahmedabad and has started producing manure.

Recently, the company had assisted Reliance Industries to set up an eco-friendly plant to convert 4 to 5 tonnes per day of waster at its Lodhivli township near Panvel. A similar plant was also set up by Excel at Jijamata Udyan, Byculla, where enormous amount of animal waste and other garbages are generated.
