Mumbai lad Aryan Goveas captured his eighth boys under-10 State ranking title for the year when he won the Pravin Trophy State Junior ranking tennis tournament, which concluded at the Hillside Gymkhana, Pune on Friday.

Aryan, seeded second, upset the top seed Nihar Bhatawdekar, scoring a convincing 6-4, 6-0 victory to claim his fifth consecutive title on the trot.

After a slow start, which saw him training 0-2 to the top seed, Aryan picked up his serve and volley game to level scores at 2-2 before jumping to a 4-2 lead and keeping his nose ahead to take the first set 6-4. The second set belonged completely to Aryan, whose powerful serve and volley game brooked no response from the top seed, losing 0-6. Aryan had a good run in the boys under-12 age group too, reaching the semi-final, where he lost to top seed Nikhil Passi 0-6, 6-3, 4-6.

Mumbai lass Mihika Yadav too won her fifth straight title with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Aboli Goghari in the girls under-10 category.

Results: Finals: Boys: u-14: 1-Arjun Khade bt 2-Anvit Bendre 6-1, 6-2. U-12: 1-Nikhil Passi bt Karan Mehta 6-3, 6-4. U-10: 2-Aran Goveas bt 1-Nihar Bhatawdekar 6-4, 6-0.

Girls: u-14: Avanee Gosavi bt Aashna Sharma 6-3, 6-4. U-12: Aashna Sharma bt Jinisha Patel 6-1, 6-2. U-10: Mihika Yadav bt Aboli Goghari 6-4, 6-3.
