CHANDGIARH, May 24: In a late-evening special drive against drunken driving, the city traffic police have challaned eight persons after they were found driving under the influence of liquor. It is almost two months since the city police used an alcometer.
The police are planning to carry out the drive on a regular basis.
In its latest drive carried out on Friday night from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m., about 20 drivers were put through the test on an alcometer. Of these, eight were challaned after they were found to have consumed alcohol beyond the permissible limits of 30 millilitres.
The operation was carried out near the roundabout of Sectors 34, 35, 22 and 21, where two traffic police inspectors, four non-gazetted police officers and 10 constables were deployed for the job.
