
Incessant rains in Uttarakhand have wreaked havoc in the state. A cloudburst killed eight people and left six others seriously injured in Devpuri village of Nail panchayat area of Chamoli district on Thursday.
According to state Government officials, eight houses and many animal sheds were completely washed away in the cloudburst. Senior district officials have rushed to the area to supervise rescue and relief work. A contingent of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police ITBP has also reached the spot.
Eight people8212;identified as Dimti Devi 50, Bhaga 19, Manoj 11, Mahipal 9, Pushpa 15, Kaushalya Devi 40, Anita 13 and Inder Singh 358212;were buried under the debris of their homes. Six of the seriously injured were admitted to a nearby primary health centre at Garsain. The deceased and the injured belong to two families.
More than three dozen animals were also washed away. Fertile agriculture land suffered extensive damage in the rains.
Meanwhile, Uttarakhand Chief Minister B C Khanduri announced a relief of Rs 1 lakh to the next of kin of the deceased.
