DECEMBER 6: The biggest cheer during the match was reserved for Fay Menezes who got a yellow card. It was only gamesmanship from the other women players who doubled up as spectators. But Fay and her Ecstasy teammates were the happiest football team as they won the Western India Football Association (WIFA) conducted women’s league final.

They defeated Fr Agnel Gymkhana 5-4 through the penalties after regulation time ended goalless.

Player of the tournament, Maria Rebello, who shows the aggression of a male player and plays with some style, stopped Carol D’Souza’s fourth penalty kick for Agnel and that act won Ecstasy the league title.

Maria is not the goalkeeper but donned the role for Fr Agnel’s last two penalties. It was a brave act which paid dividends in the end.

Fr Agnel, who had beaten Ecstasy in the first match of the league, back-pedalled for most of the match. Ecstasy held sway and missed the best chance when Grace Pereira shot over from close.

The scorers were Maria, Gazala Khan, GracePereira, Fay menezes and Arthi Ahir Rao for Ecstasy while Fatima Rodrigues, Margarita Rodrigues, Laura D’Costa and Reshma D’Costa did so for Fr Agnel.
