CHANDIGARH, MARCH 14: It is everyone8217;s duty, from the Army Commander down to the jawan to promote environmental conservation and maintain clean surroundings.

Stating this on the last day of the three-day garden and flower show organised at Chandimandir Cantonment, the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Command Lt Gen H.B. Kala stressed upon the need to weed out harmful plants like lantana and congress grass.

Stating that plants and spots for plantation should be judiciously selected and plant survival be ensured, he said that the Western Command had played major role in improving and maintaining the ecological balance in Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan. The Ecological Cell of the command had planted about eight lakh saplings of different varieties last year, he said.

The flower show concluded with the display of potted plants and flowers. The president of the Army Wives Welfare Association, Kusum Kala gave away prizes to the winners.

The winners in different categories in the order of merit are :
Garden competition Institutions: Western Command Officers Mess; Command Hospital Officers Mess; 50 Light AD Regt; N-Area officers Mess. Major units: Western Command Signals Regiment; Command Hospital unit garden. Minor units: Station Headquarters; 767 Transport Company; N-Area Pioneer Company.

VIP Houses: Maj Gen S.S. Kapoor, Brig S.K. Sinha, Maj Gen P. Vig. Brig-Col Houses first floor: Brig Balasubramanian; Col V.R. Gadekar. Brig-Col Houses ground floor: Col R.K. Sharma; Col S.S. Randhawa; Col K.K. Singh. Majors and below houses: Maj R.D. Singh; Maj P.S. Bindra.

JCO Houses: Sub Maj K.K. Tiwari; Nb Sub S.P. Singh; Sub Maj S.R. Krishan. Other Rank houses: Hav Rambir Singh; Hav Pawan Kumar. Civilians8217; houses: Gurdeep Chand, Rajni Ghosh.
