East Bengal survived some anxious moments in the closing stages to hold Salgaocar Sports Club to a goalless draw in the 10th round of the ONGC I-League at Nehru Stadium here today.
East Bengal had the better of the exchanges and scoring chances in the first half, but it was Salgaocar who came back strongly in the second period and were unlucky not to get full points in the dying minutes as substitute Dipankar Roy brought about a goal line save off a Felix Chimaokwu header.
East Bengal now have eight points from 10 matches, while Salgaocar have collected five. Play was confined to the midfield initially with neither team making headway. East Bengal settled into a rhythm and got two good chances to score.
In the first 28th minutes, defender Debabrata Roy moved down the left flank and centred the ball to Dipendu Biswas who was lurking in the box. But Biswas8217; header missed the mark narrowly.
A combined move by Snehashis Chakraborty and Debabrata Roy saw the latter sending a cross to Edmilson Marques whose volley missed the target by a whisker.
