
PATIALA, Feb 5: Residents of Patiala have a reason to cheer. They will soon be able to get E-mail facility at a nominal payment of Rs 20 a month.
Deputy Commissioner Jasbir Singh Bir said here today that with the facilities of the website and Internet becoming available, the residents will be able to access vital information at the click of a button. These facilities would help the administration interact with the people in a better way. People could send in their complaints to the administration through the E-mail, he said.
The Deputy Commissioner said that the district administration had not spent anything from the government funds on this project. Instead, donations had been collected and used. It has been planned to earn revenue from advertisements on the Internet, the funds from which would be utilised for the welfare of the sick and the needy, he said. The proceeds would go to the district Red Cross. A separate bank account had been opened for this purpose.
The Deputy Commissioner said that among the information available on the Internet would be a list of blood donors, details about medical services available in the district, all important telephone numbers, industrial information about the district, information about places of tourist interest, and the latest event calendar of the city.
The Deputy Commissioner said that it was expected that vital information about the revenue department like the 8220;fard raftar,8221; the dates of visit of the Patwari to a particular village and other revenue data would be of immense help to the people, especially those settled abroad or living out of Patiala district.
