NAGPUR, MAY 7: Two persons pretending to be skilled workmen in making duplicate keys exhibited their true skills8217; when they gained entrance to a house in Wardhaman Nagar on Tuesday afternoon, opened an almirah in the house and escaped with valuables worth Rs one lakh.

Hired to make duplicate keys for a steel almirah in the residence of the Band family, the tricksters managed to open another steel almirah in the same room and fled with Rs 50,000 cash, a gold necklace and a pair of gold bangles worth Rs 50,000. The Band family is uncertain about the amount of the valuables stored in the almirah which were stolen by the tricksters.

As the incident came to light only after three days, police said that they had not been able to recover fingerprints of the suspects. They are now trying to trace the culprits on the basis of rough sketches made on the basis of the description given by Girish Madhukar Band. It was Girish Band who had hired the duo to make duplicate keys.

According to the Lakadganj police, Band was on the look out for workmen specialising in making duplicate keys as the original keys of one of the almirahs in the house were missing. On Tuesday morning, two persons, both attired as Sikhs, approached him asking if he wanted to get duplicate keys of almirahs and vehicles made.

Girish invited the duo inside the house and showed them the almirah for which he needed the duplicate keys. After negotiations on the charges, the two commenced their job. It took less than an hour for the two men to prepare duplicate keys of the almirah. The two men thereafter accepted the charged fixed and left.

It was only on Wednesday that members of the Band family found that valuables stored inside the other almirah missing. The Kotwali police are now in search of the two key-makers. A case of theft has been registered.
